Fall 2022 Seasonal Haiku

    Harvest moon—
walking around the pond
    all night long.

a haiku by Basho, my greeting to you for fall!
and a prompt for writing.

I love the way haiku capture a moment. In this case, a night-long moment.

There is an attentiveness and playfulness in haiku.

In the course of your day let your attention be drawn to simple sensory experience. What you see, what you feel. What catches your eye? Jot it down. You can even record in your phone notes!

Sometime during the week, graze through your notes, see what appeals to you. Write it in your notebook. Don’t worry about syllable count. What’s most important is the sense of the sensory moment.

Send me your haiku! For fun I will create a place on my website to share them.
